The AEC was formed during the summer of 2005 with a mandate from the Board of Selectmen to examine alternative energy resources and how Cohasset may benefit from such resources.

Over the years, the AEC has investigated the benefits of various forms of renewable energy, including solar, wind and tidal.  Solar appears to be the most viable renewable energy source for Cohasset as solar arrays in Massachusetts are still eligible for numerous state and federal tax credits and incentives.

The AEC is presently working on two specific sites to install photovoltaic panels:

The closed landfill on Cedar street
The roof of the Middle/High School
